Uh oh!

So it’s like 2:16 and I’m blogging so that’s a first. So currently where I am is sitting on my mother’s good couches waiting for my stain to pretreat. Don’t let that fool you. These are perfectly average couches that are just slightly less used than our normal ones.

Don’t be fooled by the stain either. I’d like to say it’s monumental, one worn as a badge like a Medal of Honor of sorts commemorating a really good meal or something but nah it’s just strawberry lemonade on what used to be light carpet in the words longest sentence without commas. Anyway, last I twatched, AVol was struggling to find someone to go shopping with him and DMuggs probably ate some pretzels recently. We haven’t really worked on our project, honestly, but it’s coming soon*!

Soon = eventually

Updates

We have set a deadline. Christmas is going to be the most sick day of the year. New presents and you get to learn too! If all works out, we will have three songs published at that time. We just have lots of technological issues, for example, not getting sound on our video blogs for more than thirty seconds. So to remedy our issue with posting things, we are trying to get a YouTube channel up and running (Thanks D-Muggs )! We just need more time to really bring things together. We are very busy kids, you see.

One of my initial concerns was whether or not our music would be good, or worth listening to. It actually is not bad. 😳 Once you get past the fact it is a cover of a song you probably know all the words to already, it has real information. I have not been upset with the work Alex and Daniel have been doing. It is nice working with your friends because it becomes, usually, a nice collaboration.

Here’s a quick pick of us! If you are one of our two followers, AVol and D-Muggs love you guys! I mean, me too! But they even mentioned you in our video. You guys rock!

A Live Action Look!

Well this video didn’t really turn out too well. So here is us talking for 27 seconds, and then the rest of the time it is us just playing charades, I guess. Enjoy the sound while it lasts! We’ll be re-recording this ASAP as possible… so LOOK OUT for new updates. Yay!

Even more updates!

YAY! I wish I had more stuff to report, but one hour on Friday is simply not enough! We will get stuff posted soon! Hopefully. DMuggs is working on being more Fancy than he already is and AVol is trying to locate his inner cool kid.

#Holla, and here I am. Basically the secretary. But secretaries do more fun stuff. Oh Well!

Progress! YAASSSS.

This week eight of our genius hour project, at this point we are focusing on finishing the recording of “Hey Mother”. Garage Band has been our method of choice to record. Initially, we were held back by our lack of technology, but we have found a system that works for us. We are utilizing microphones from our band program and AVol’s handy Macbook. Right now our biggest struggle is being able to record a piece that is not only entertaining, but one that sounds like a legitimate piece of music. D-Muggs has been unsatisfied by his performance of our song and he is progressing to a level that meets his standards.

We have begun work on our next piece and we are experimenting with different sounds. Our goal is to incorporate various styles of music into our project. We are looking to include elements into works that would normally not be associated with them.

This is our amnesty post because in the rush if actually working on things, blogging seems less  fun. Oops. We have realized our progress is greatly affected by not being versed in how to work our technology. Our issue is not making the songs at all, rather sharing them with the outside world. Because of this, we have given ourselves a deadline of Christmas to post some stuff we have been working on. We are hoping that once school ends for break and we are able to get together, we will have more good things. If genius hour was a block of three hours every three weeks, instead of one hour every week, it would be a lot easier to work through kinks. But we remain optimistic and ready succeed!

Hoping for progress,
Karen!

Reimagining Oedipus.

We have made some progress changing the lyrics our “Hey Mother” parody. We have continued researching Oedipus, following the story closely and applying it to the new lyrics. RhymeZone has been extremely helpful in the process, because we are continuously working towards finishing the song, and rhyming words has been the most difficult segment. We hope to be coming out with the song soon, so stay tuned for this fiyah to drop.

Understanding Oedipus Rex

For our first song, we will be remaking Avicci’s “Hey Brother” into “Hey Mother,” telling the unfortunate story of Oedipus Rex.

Before we could write any lyrics, we had to start by reading Oedipus Rex and developing an understanding for the text. To do this, we used an entertaining video by PeterdMCasto to get a quick summary put in modern day language.

Literature has never been our strong suits, but we hope by putting this entertaining twist on it that we find it more enjoyable and easier to deal with. So far, that has been the case, as we are ready to move on next week to writing the lyrics.

Genius Hour Preflection

Our expectations for this project is developing a deeper understanding of classic literature and recreating it in a way that is more interesting for students. Our goal is to offer a creative aid to anyone studying these pieces of art.

This is something we are all looking forward to and we expect to get a lot of entertainment as well as knowledge out of this year long process.
